Singapore has a highly developed transportation network of highways, passenger trains, waterways, and flight services.
There are two main airports in Singapore, Singapore Changi Airport and Seletar Airport which are both international airports. Changi Airport is also an unforgettable tourist destination. Changi Airport is home to green spaces and verdant gardens for travellers looking to unwind and stretch their legs after a long flight and they also have many family-friendly activities.
Singapore’s MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) has an extensive network of routes that will help you zip around the city. Most of the popular attractions are just a short walk away from an MRT station, making our trains a great way to get around.
There are many ferries in Singapore that will take you to other smaller and more secluded island. There are also ferries to take you from Singapore to other country to continue you holiday too.
The bus routes are some of the most scenic, allowing you to indulge in the lush greenery and beautiful architecture of the city. All public buses are wheelchair accessible and open strollers are allowed
To drive Singapore, you must have an international driver’s licence with you and your license isn’t suspended or cancelled.
You can also rent a car in Singapore. You will be able to find rental companies and they can deliver the car to the airport for you to have from the very start of your holiday.
Here are some road rules to respect whilst driving in Greece:
1. Using public transport
Taking taxis and even private hire car services can easily be very expensive when visiting Singapore. Instead, save money by using the subway system, known as the MRT. The Singaporean MRT system remains one of the most efficient and affordable in Asia.
2. Consider Tourist Passes, Packages, and Online Promotions
Like all cities geared toward tourism, there are many discount packages for tourists to save money with during their stay. The Singapore Tourist Pass is a tap-and-go smart card that offers unlimited rides on the country’s bus, MRT, and LRT systems for the duration that it is valid for.
3. Eating Most Meals at Food Courts, Kopi-Tiams, or Hawker Centres
Save money as a tourist by having more meals at food courts. These are air-conditioned, self-service eateries located all over the country. All offer a variety of Asian and Western dishes at affordable prices too.
4. Free Attractions and Performances
There are many free attractions in Singapore for visitors with tight travel budgets. First and foremost is the Singapore Botanic Gardens. This 150-year-old green oasis is at the fringe of the town area. On weekends, there are often free music performances too. There are many other well-maintained, free-to-enter parks in Singapore.
5. Shopping at Supermarkets, Neighbourhood Centres, and Daiso
The main supermarket chains in Singapore are NTUC Fair-price, Sheng Siong, and Cold Storage. All three chains offer an astonishing variety of affordable goods. They also have daily special offers and are always located near MRT stations.
6. Do Not Buy Bottled Water
This might sound strange as a budget hack, but know that bottled water in Singapore could cost anything from a dollar to well over 10 bucks for an artisanal bottle. With that in mind, why deplete your travel budget on bottled water when Singaporean tap water is perfectly safe for drinking? Unlike treated water in some other countries, Singaporean tap water is also completely colourless and odor-free. With the weather constantly hot and humid, you might thus wish to carry a tumbler with you while exploring Singapore’s attractions. These could then easily be topped up from the tap. Some restaurants would also be willing to fill up for you.
7. Minimise Pub Visits
Alcohol is frighteningly expensive in Singapore. At a pub, you could be charged over 10 bucks for a beer, far more for hard liquor. While I wouldn’t suggest completely avoiding alcohol during your Singapore trip, the cost of your holiday is going to skyrocket if you insist on having a few swigs at a watering den every night. You could even end up spending more on alcohol than on food and accommodation combined. The suggestion is thus to save money by buying alcohol from supermarkets and convenience stores like 7-11, and drinking your purchases at your hotel. If this sounds a tad too dreary, have your pints at hawker centers or kopi-tiams.
8. Go to the beach
Singapore is blessed with a beautiful string of beaches just 30 minutes from the CBD. Pack a towel, a few drinks and a box of sushi or a sandwich for a fun day out for just a few dollars. This is a great place to relax on your holiday and have fun as well.
9. Go to free concerts at the Esplanade
Singapore’s Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and Esplanade Mall comprise a multi purpose arts center that incorporates a concert hall, theatre, and an outdoor performance area. The venue brings a fantastic array of shows to the city’s bay area as well as some great shopping and dining experiences. The Esplanade is a great place in Singapore to enjoy an evening of culture, whether watching local bands on stage or enjoying traditional dance performances from Malaysia and Thailand, plenty of which are free.
